A COVID Tale: Displaced

She keeps the dry erase EXPO markers in a bag, but none of them have been used yet. They were items on a receipt a year ago, oblivious to empty shelves and a toilet paper drought. Instead, they’ve sat unused on the rear corner of the desk since March, next to the stapler and a dusty roll of tape. The painting of a sailboat fades into the tan wall, unassuming and patient.

Her office is positioned on the end of the building, overlooking a squished parking lot. The drivers change shifts in that room, stuck in an empty white cell, deaf to the phantom conversations that came before.

PARSIPPANY, New Jersey --- New Jersey has not been immune to the increasing novel pandemic, COVID-19, as it has spread faster than expected through the northern part of the state in the last month.

The coronavirus (COVID-19) hit nationwide on January 21 in Washington state and there are now 46,285 cases reported and 588 deaths in the United States, with 295 recovered. With the close proximity to New York City, the state of New Jersey has accumulated 2,844 known cases and 27 deaths.

PARSIPPANY, New Jersey --- New Jersey is not immune to the increasing novel coronavirus as it has spread quickly through the northern part of the state in the last month.
The first case was reported on January 21 in Washington State, according to the NYTimes. Now, there are 144,499 reported cases and 2,602 deaths in the United States, with 4,573 recovered, according to worldometers.info. With the close proximity to New York City, the state of New Jersey has accumulated 13,386 known cases and 161 deaths, according to New Jersey COVID-19 information page.
